Moorpark’s historic High Street is nearing the end of a $2.8 million streetscape makeover, and a new residential building is complete. The Daly Group recently finished its High Street Depot project, a mixed-use development with 79 apartments, 14,000 square feet of retail space, a public plaza and green space. A 2020 study counted 914 public spaces downtown; today there are about 813. Will Whitaker, whose family hardware store has operated on High Street for 99 years, warned that downtown businesses risk losing loyal clientele. While High Street lost spaces to development, nearby lots remain underused, particularly the Ventura County Transportation Commission Metrolink station lot, nearly empty on weekends.
