Credit: Joerg MetznerAs Evanston/Skokie District 65 continues to implement its Structural Deficit Reduction Plan (SDRP), the school board is considering the possibility of closing as many as four school buildings before the start of the 2026-2027 school year, when the new Foster School is also scheduled to open in the Fifth Ward. District leaders and consultants are scheduled to present scenarios for school closures to the board at its Monday, Sept. 29 meeting. With the walkability consideration, the district is working to ensure “as many students as possible” can walk to their school. Essentially, the district is looking at how much income a school property could generate if it sold or repurposed the school. The District 65 school board meets on Monday, Sept. 8.
