With the petition filing window to officially get on the ballot opening in late October, here’s where things stand in the open race for Evanston’s seat in Congress. Chicago resident David Abrevaya also filed to run in April but terminated his campaign committee soon after. Each candidate must file a minimum number of petition signatures from in-district voters (1,173 for Democrats, 540 for Republicans) to get on their party’s primary ballot. Biss and Abughazaleh both spoke to CNN after the protest, and both were targeted by far-right figures for their participation. The winners of the March 17 primary will advance as nominees in the midterm general elections on Nov. 4, 2026.
