The UK has once again requested that Apple provide backdoor access to iCloud data—this time, however, only for the data of British users, according to the Financial Times. In January, the UK Home Office reportedly asked Apple to disable end-to-end encryption on iCloud data for users worldwide, possibly for law enforcement purposes. Apple subsequently disabled Advanced Data Protection for users in the UK and filed a complaint with the UK's Investigatory Powers Tribunal. In the months that followed, the UK reportedly faced pressure from the Trump administration to withdraw its demand, which it did in August. Apple is unlikely to embrace the new proposal and has yet to restore Advanced Data Protection in the UK.
