I was averaging nine units (average bottle of 12% wine) four times a week. I laughed along to the 'wine o'clock' jokes and convinced myself this was what being a mum was. Other mums bonded over a second bottle of wine and over-sharing while I awkwardly slipped away after two cokes. Sure, sometimes I feel boring without a drink, and being out in a social situation sober still terrifies me but I'm pretty sure that's more my personality than being sober. Some of my funniest nights and fondest memories were fuelled by three sambucas and a bottle of wine.
