(IN BRIEF) Nokia has signed a global licensing deal with Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE), gaining access to HPE’s RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) and strengthening its AI-powered MantaRay SMO platform.
Alongside the technology transfer, HPE’s development team has joined Nokia Mobile Networks as of October 1, 2025, bringing additional expertise.
The integration enhances Nokia’s capabilities in RAN automation, multi-vendor orchestration, and autonomous networking, helping operators manage complex networks more efficiently and prepare for 6G.
Nokia’s MantaRay SMO is already Open RAN compliant, supports the R1 interface for rApps, and has achieved TM Forum Autonomous Networks Level 4 recognition.
The agreement brings advanced assets into Nokia’s portfolio and strengthens its offering in AI-powered RAN automation and autonomous networking.
