The $7,500 federal tax credit for new electric vehicle purchases officially ended on Sept. 30 under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA). Despite the rush of customers into showrooms to take advantage of the savings, the buying experience remained strong. According to CDK Global’s Ease of Purchase index, 89% customers said that it was easy to purchase a vehicle in September. In September, in-stock vehicle availability improved to 48%, a three-point increase from August, although still below the ideal benchmark of 50%.
