SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An investigation was underway into the death of a 55-year-old man who was in custody at San Diego Central Jail and died at a hospital, authorities reported Thursday. The facility's medical staff was requested and began lifesaving measures, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office. The inmate had been in sheriff's custody for public intoxication for two days before he passed. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, the department stated. San Diego County has been under intense scrutiny for years over its unusually high number of in-custody deaths.
