Station staff at several central London stations reported being abused and harassed by people on their way to and from the demo. The rise of the far right is also a major issue for us as trade unionists who are part of a diverse, multi-ethnic, multinational workforce. It is our migrant workmates who will suffer most as the far right grows in strength and confidence, both via an increase in racist attacks, and as the Labour government scrambles to appease the right by implementing watered-down versions of its policies. Robinson, Farage, and other far-right demagogues feed on a real sense of social despair felt by many working-class people across the country. The antidote to the poison of the far-right is working-class unity.
