This summer, Deer Valley Resort’s newest hires include goats, sheep and a fleet of giant mowing machines. “It’s a pilot project,” said Steve Graff, Deer Valley’s vice president of mountain operations. “I’ve been in mountain operations my entire adult life, and I’ve never had goats,” Graff laughed. As Deer Valley doubles in size to more than 4,000 acres, he’s asked every department — from snowmaking to lift operations — to think about sustainability.
