Clifford Church, 62, now of no fixed address and formerly of Harrogate and of Redcar in Cleveland made his first appearance at York Magistrates' Court this morning. The court heard that two of the charges could only be tried by a judge and jury. His case was sent to York Crown Court where he will make his first appearance on October 27 for a plea and trial preparation hearing. On that occasion, he will be asked to enter his pleas. Church did not apply for bail and he was remanded in custody until he appears before the higher court.
