Clouds are like the contents of experience; awareness is the open sky. Experiences are the movie; awareness is the screen. Some traditions prefer a waves/ocean metaphor, since awareness and its contents are not two things but the same substance. To extend the movie metaphor, it’s easy to get engrossed in the drama of a movie and forget that it is, in fact, a movie. The waves and ocean image goes further, showing awareness and its contents as one—a theme I’ll return to in a future post.
