By Zoila Palma: Colombia has handed over 120 hectares of Pablo Escobar’s former Hacienda Nápoles estate to women affected by the country’s long-running armed conflict, President Gustavo Petro announced Wednesday. The land, once owned by the infamous Medellín Cartel leader, had previously been leased to local authorities and later used as a theme park, AFP reports. Petro’s decision is part of a broader land reform program, aimed at giving rural Colombians access to land, including parcels previously owned by drug traffickers. Hacienda Nápoles, famous for its hippos and a replica plane at the entrance, has been a symbol of Escobar’s wealth and power.
