Mr Anderson visited The Rockwell Centre in Thorpe Edge the previous day to view its Roots and Fruits gardening project and enjoy lunch at its weekly gathering for residents who found themselves socially isolated. During his visit, he also called in at the Inn Churches project off Wakefield Road, the MAPA Centre in West Bowling, Newby Primary School, and the West End Centre in Little Horton, based within St Oswald's Church. Mr Anderson said one of the privileges of his role, said to be the oldest Royal appointment, was being given the opportunity to gain an insight into the work going on in local communities. He said at the time: "I spent the entire day in Bradford, and it was a real eye-opener to see all the wonderful work going on, most of which goes under the radar. "There was a really positive atmosphere, and these groups deserve far greater recognition, as without their contributions, society would fall apart."
