On 25 September 2025, Intermarine S.p.A. launched the fibreglass lamination of the hull for the Italian Navy’s first new-generation minehunter at the Sarzana shipyard. Intermarine press releaseThe lamination ceremony – an event of great importance for Intermarine, for the Italian Navy and for the Italian shipbuilding industry – was held in the presence of the President of the Liguria Region, Marco Bucci, the Director of Naval Armaments, Chief Inspector Admiral Giuseppe Abbamonte, the Chairman and the CEO of the Immsi Group, respectively Matteo and Michele Colaninno, the CEO of Intermarine, Livio Corghi, and senior local officials. The application of the first layer gives shape to a new class of unique state-of-the-art minehunters, equipped with cutting-edge technologies that extend the vessels’ operational capabilities in the new era of seabed surveillance and protection of critical underwater infrastructures. Modularity, Interoperability and Multi-Mission capabilities are the cornerstones of the complex architecture of these new-generation vessels, which combine traditional minehunter characteristics (resistance to shocks generated by underwater explosions, non-magnetism and silent operation) with advanced technologies and extensive use of autonomous vehicles to operate across the whole underwater spectrum. With a length of 63 meters and a displacement of approximately 1,300 tonnes, the NGM/C will be distinguished by their ability to conduct mine countermeasures operations inside minefields, guaranteeing crew safety and using different types of autonomous vehicles as force multipliers and capability gap fillers.
