This provocation was posed by speaker Lars Courage at the workshop Enlightened Retrofit: Rediscovering The Power of Daylight at this year’s AJ Retrofit Live. The event, supported by translucent building elements manufacturer Rodeca, considered how daylight can be a powerful tool in successful retrofit. Awareness is growing of the value of retrofitting and repurposing existing buildings, and of the role that natural light can play. Use of translucent roof panels to give diffused light was particularly helpful in a museum, given, he says, that ‘light is the enemy of art’. There it was re-erected and combined with translucent roof panels to serve as a bus stop.
