Gangland kingpin Tony Mokbel will finally learn whether his Lawyer X bid to quash drug convictions has succeeded. The 60-year-old will face the Victorian Court of Appeal on Friday morning where three justices are set to hand down their decision, following his three-day appeal hearing in September. He is seeking to overturn his drug-trafficking and importation convictions, claiming they were tainted because of barrister-turned-informer Nicola Gobbo. In granting his bail application, Court of Appeal President Karin Emerton described Mokbel's appeal chances as "very strong". Since his release, Mokbel has been following stringent bail conditions including daily police reporting and an 8pm to 6am curfew.
