The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has strongly warned Israel against any intentions to take over areas of the occupied West Bank, calling such a move a "red line" that would badly hurt the Abraham Accords and the larger goal of bringing the Middle East together. Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE's assistant minister for political affairs and special envoy of the foreign minister, said this as a warning before Israel's big ministerial meeting on the possible annexation.Nusseibeh said that taking over the West Bank would make it impossible for there to be enduring peace in the area and would be the "death knell" of the two-state solution, which is still the major goal of international diplomacy to end the Israeli-Palestinian issue. Her warning shows that the UAE is very worried that these kinds of one-sided actions by Israel will damage trust and push Arab governments away. Many of these states have been open to normalizing and integrating with Israel as long as Palestinian sovereignty is respected.Bezalel Smotrich, Israel's far-right finance minister, recently suggested annexing about 82% of the West Bank. The UAE said again that there is still room for conversation, but that a strong stance against annexation is needed to keep any prospect of living together and prospering.
