Greece’s Foreign Ministry is closely monitoring the developments in the Global Sumud Flotilla after Israeli defense forces intercepted several boats in the international waters late on Wednesday and arrested all those onboard, including 27 Greek activists. From the 44 boats participating in the flotilla carrying some 500 foreign activists and aid to Gaza, the IDF has reportedly seized 32, among them the Greek “Oxygono.” The remaining boats kept sailing to the shore of Gaza. Earlier today, foreign minister Giorgos Gerapetritis had said that the seized boat were led to the port of Ashdod. Zochiou also stressed that the ministry made a demarche to the Israeli side and raised the issue of ensuring the protection of Greek citizens. She recalled the joint statement issued by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Greece and Italy on Wednesday, calling for the protection of the participants in the flotilla.
