Radiation therapy could be an underused tool to reduce pelvic relapse risk for patients with locally advanced, muscle-invasive bladder cancer, according to results of a new phase III randomized trial. The BART trial enrolled 153 patients with locally advanced, urothelial muscle-invasive bladder cancer from 2016 to 2024. Participants were randomly assigned to receive either post-operative/adjuvant radiation therapy (50.4 Gy in 28 fractions, n=77) or observation alone (n=76). Dr. Murthy said he hopes these results will spur greater use of radiation therapy for bladder cancer.
