A joint law enforcement operation in Palo Seco on Wednesday resulted in the seizure of cocaine and Colombian marijuana valued at more than $292 million. The exercise was coordinated by national security agencies and led by the elite Vetted Unit, with support from officers of the South-Western Division. According to official figures, the search produced 1,177.4 kilogrammes of Colombian marijuana packaged in 41 crocus bags, with an estimated value of TT$129,216,117.80. Investigators said intelligence gathered from the arrest indicated that additional narcotics were to be moved from the Palo Seco stash to avoid detection, leading to the overnight surveillance and Wednesday’s discovery. The Ministry commended the Vetted Unit and supporting officers for their role in the operation and said it demonstrated the Government’s commitment to dismantling organized criminal networks.
