In 2019, Mazin wrote all five episodes of Chernobyl — the historical epic depicting the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear disaster and the accompanying fallout. Chernobyl also took home 10 Emmy Awards, including for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Directing, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Production Design, Outstanding Music, Outstanding Single-Picture Editing, Outstanding Sound Mixing, Outstanding Sound Editing, and Outstanding Visual Effects. Chernobyl stars Jared Harris, Emily Watson, and Stellan Skarsgård, who were all nominated for Emmys for their performances in the miniseries. This leaves Craig Mazin as the sole writer in Season 3, and he confirmed after Druckmann’s departure that things aren’t going to change much under his direction.
