News ReleaseFAIRLAND — After 80 years, Indiana native Ensign Delbert Martin, who died in aerial combat over modern-day Micronesia, will be interred next to his family with full military honors Wednesday, Oct. 15. In January 1945, Martin’s Fighter Squadron VF 12 was assigned to USS Randolph CV 15. '”On March 21, 1945, the 23-year-old Delbert Martin took off on a combat and photographic reconnaissance mission over Yap Island. Delbert Martin’s decorations included the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart Medal, and Air Medal. Delbert Martin is survived by his nieces, Kathryn Brown, Natalie Shepard and Barbara Martin, and his nephew, Scott Martin.
