James McGlinchey, 60, of Denton Street, was brought before Carlisle magistrates today (Tuesday, September 23) following the incident yesterday.
Emergency services were called to a house fire on Denton Street yesterday morning (Monday, September 22).
Fire engines from Carlisle, Brampton and Longtown attended and used two hose reels, an external jet and a 12-metre ladder to extinguish the fire.
McGlinchey faces two charges – arson with intent to endanger life; arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.
The case was heard at the Magistrates' Court at Carlisle this morning ahead of a pre-trial plea hearing at Carlisle Crown Court on October 27.
