The Fruitland Area Fire Protection District will welcome Cape Girardeau County's first Safe Haven Baby Box, and host a dedication and blessing ceremony at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7. Safe Haven Baby Boxes offers an anonymous, secure option for parents in crisis to surrender their babies, preventing the illegal abandonment of newborns, ensuring the baby receives immediate medical attention and is later placed into the foster care system.
