The editorial pled for schools to “rediscover the basics.”This implies that teaching “the basics” has stopped; however, this is not the case in the CVUSD. I have a front row seat to the incredible work of CVUSD educators, other staff and students. Our public education systems ensure that all children—regardless of socioeconomic status, race, gender or ability—have access to an education and other critical supports. I know this keenly both as a trustee and as a researcher working in public schools. There is much we can all do to ensure that our local schools continue to flourish.
