HERMISTON — The Hermiston Public Safety Center is months away from reopening, but the Hermiston City Council got an early peek at the renovations during a work session Monday night, Sept. 23. The city owns the center, which is the headquarters of the Hermiston Police Department and Umatilla County Fire District No. When the renovations are finished, there will be an extra 5,000 square feet of room for a total of 28,000 square feet for the safety center. Part of the renovations also includes work to fortify the safety center in the event of seismic activity. Space inside the safety center was freed up when the Municipal Court was moved out of the building and into Hermiston City Hall.
