According to SRC Group, Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) has recently awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) for their groundbreaking design, Methanol Superstorage. This innovative tank concept utilizes Sandwich Plate System (SPS) technology, significantly enhancing shipboard storage capacity for methanol and ethanol. In this context, Panama’s expertise was integrated into the review process; they too have granted AiP status to the Methanol Superstorage. For any specific vessel’s fuel tank design approval, comprehensive documentation must meet all relevant regulations and guidelines. “The Methanol Superstorage tank not only offers nearly double the fuel capacity of standard tanks but also features SPS technology that provides enhanced fire protection, leak prevention, and impact resistance—all while allowing retrofitting with minimal disruption to vessel layout.”
