Jessie Rennie took to her TikTok video account to make the offensive accusations in February. Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told that the deceased woman had previously passed away in “tragic circumstances” and Rennie was viewed on the social media site stating baselessly that her father was in some way responsible for her death. Relatives of the deceased woman’s family were made aware of what Rennie had publicly stated on the TikTok video and were said to have been left “deeply upset” at the callous and unfounded insinuations. The family members subsequently decided to call in the police to investigate and Rennie, of New Street, Musselburgh, was arrested and charged with the communications offence. Sheriff Adrian Fraser deferred sentence for the preparation of social work reports and a restriction of liberty order assessment to later this month.
