Earlier this year, a change of the IT system at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital's (N&N) pathology department saw 19,200 blood test results become inaccessible to GP surgeries. The glitch saw a mountain of extra administrative work created at practices and sparked fears over delayed treatment and diagnoses. Currently, work is ongoing to establish an electronic patient record which can be shared between Norfolk's three main hospitals. And bosses are now hopeful the teething problems with the IT system change at the N&N's pathology department will help inform its eventual introduction. "Any learning is likely to be particularly pertinent for the electronic patient record, as across the three acute hospitals they are preparing to undertake one of the biggest pieces of digital transformation work ever undertaken."
