The original proposals, put forward by Buxton Primary School in March, were intended to address the "continued and increased financial pressure" on the education centre. The new timetable, which has now been given the go-ahead by the Local Authority after months of debate, will see the school open from 8.10am to 1pm on Fridays. The school day would continue to start at 8.10am and finish at 3.05pm for the rest of the week. "We have remained engaged with the Local Authority and unions throughout this process and will continue dialogue during the trial period and reviews. The primary school claims the timetable has been "carefully arranged" to ensure pupils still receive 32.5 hours of teaching per week, the minimum suggested by non-statutory governmental guidelines.
