Last week, Treasurer Jim Chalmers announced the Productivity Commission will review the GST distribution. Since 2018, our friends on the east coast like to blame the GST distribution as the reason why their budgets are in bad shape. And the reason for our success is clear: we’ve backed the industries that drive national growth, starting with mining. That’s why WA has long contributed more than our fair share to the national economy. So it puzzles me when our compatriots over east whinge that the GST distribution “isn’t fair”.
