LSU's Brian Kelly dismisses rumors of Michael Van Buren taking over at QBThe LSU Tigers’ loss to Ole Miss was so frustrating that it has led to some drastic ideas from fans and media members, notably the suggestion that head coach Brian Kelly consider starting sophomore quarterback Michael Van Buren over Garrett Nussmeier. Nussmeier’s struggles connecting with his receivers downfield, along with a laundry list of other issues, have rendered LSU’s offense completely ineffective. The idea of switching to Van Buren, at least against South Carolina in Week 7, makes sense. Secondly, while it’s true Van Buren doesn’t have the same processing ability as Nussmeier, his deep ball looks significantly better than Nussmeier’s does right now. This arm talent was on full display when Van Buren started for Mississippi State last season, as seen below.
