Bitterroot goats: Mario Locatelli publishes new book, ‘Friends In High Places’

Hamilton resident Mario Locatelli’s new book “Friends In High Places” features over 100 photographs of mountain goats in the Bitterroot Mountains. Locatelli, known as “the Montana mountain goat,” has two other books called “Hiking With Mario in Montana’s Bitterroot Mountains” and “The Mountain Goat Chronicles.”Locatelli said that for the third book he took photos in the Bitterroot mountains and the 39 canyons. “I hiked west of Hamilton on the cliffs and I spent many, many half days watching the goats,” Locatelli said. “The Rocky Mountain Goat is one of our most admirable, sought-after big game animals,” Locatelli writes. “All of the canyons in the Bitterroot have goats,” Locatelli said.
