The Tax Ombud has issued an extensive report on the scourge of SARS eFiling hijacking in South Africa. The Ombud suggests several changes to SARS eFiling and more security awareness for taxpayers to avoid being defrauded in the future. The statistics denote an enormous problem for eFiling systems at the South African Revenue Services (SARS), and the Ombud’s investigation has alluded to reasons why eFiling hijacking, where “a taxpayer’s SARS eFiling profile is unlawfully accessed, taken over or manipulated by unauthorised persons.”What is eFiling hijacking?
