Another piece of the decades-long repair efforts at Vandergrift’s Casino Theater is set to wrap up by the end of the year, borough engineer Lucien Bove said. After these repairs, the oldest working theater in Southwestern Pennsylvania shouldn’t need any major improvements for the foreseeable future, Bove said. The Casino was opened in 1900 as a vaudeville theater by the borough’s founder, industrialist George McMurtry. He said the group replaced the walls, seats, pillars and nearly all of its internal components. The theater is hosting a screening of George Romero’s “Night of the Living Dead” at 7 p.m. Oct. 18.
