However, while the US was implementing a phased troop withdrawal, the Afghan government and security forces crumbled under Taliban pressure, prompting the remaining US troops to scramble for a chaotic evacuation. Taliban officials have since maintained they are open to cooperation with the US but "without the United States maintaining any military presence in any part of Afghanistan."
