Tahiya Karioka is an Egyptian household name in Egypt, an icon of Oriental dance in Egypt and the region at large. The rise of a starBadawiya Aly Karim died then, and Tahiya Karioka was born. It was also in 1952, during the Free Officers’ movement to overthrow the British-appointed monarchy, that Tahiya Karioka married Free Officer Mostafa Kamal Sedky.
