East Lothian Council has created the tree preservation order (TPO), which came into force at the beginning of the month, in a bid to protect the tree, which is sandwiched between Seggarsdean Terrace and the road to the south of Haddington Golf Club. According to a statement by East Lothian Council: “This tree preservation order is being promoted to secure the retention of a large mature lime tree. “This mature tree forms a landmark feature at the south-eastern entrance to Haddington, contributing significantly to the character and identity of the streetscape. “The TPO was sought to secure the retention of a large mature lime, which forms a landmark feature at Haddington’s south-eastern entrance, after the land the tree sits on was sold by a housing association. “Council officers applied for an order to protect the tree, which was deemed to contribute significantly to the character of the streetscape.”
