Rory Selfridge carried out the assault against worker Muhammad Bajwa at the Tesco supermarket on Olivebank Road in Musselburgh. Police were called and the 19-year-old was arrested and charged with assaulting the worker on March 4. Selfridge, of Coalgate Avenue, Tranent, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court last Friday for sentencing after he had previously pleaded guilty to the offence, which was said to be aggravated by prejudice relating to race, colour or nationality. He also had a not guilty plea accepted by prosecutors to allegedly gesturing to his waistband and threatening to stab a second employee on the same date. Sheriff Charles Walls imposed a community payback order and said that the teenager would be supervised by the social work department for the next 12 months.
