The Dover Port Health Authority (DPHA), part of Dover District Council, called again for immediate government intervention. Over ten tonnes of illegal meat seized at Dover in two weeks, raising urgent government action calls amid border concerns. EFRA committee chair Mr Carmichael praised Dover port health officers for their work. Describing the illegal meat influx as 'a crisis brewing for years, if not decades', Mr Carmichael warned the risks are both national and personal. "Our team is intercepting tonnes of illegal meat every week – over 10 tonnes in the first half of September alone – with minimal people on the ground,” she said.
