The call follows a new Scottish Fiscal Commission report on climate change and fiscal sustainability, which highlights the immense funding challenge of reaching Scotland’s net-zero targets. NFU Scotland Vice-President Duncan Macalister welcomed the report as 'an important step in recognising the scale of investment needed', but cautioned that farmers and crofters are already delivering solutions. “Scotland cannot reach its climate targets by placing a disproportionate burden on farming and food production without the significant financial backing required. “Scotland’s farmers and crofters are ready to do more, but they cannot carry the cost of transition alone,” Mr Macalister stressed.
