The investment, from the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner for Essex (PFCC), comes from £294,000 of Local Safer Streets funding announced this week, which will support four community safety projects across the county.
Wickford will receive a huge share of the funding, with £160,531 allocated to deliver CCTV upgrades, new street wardens, and security improvements.
The project, proposed by Basildon Community Safety Partnership, will see new CCTV cameras with analytical intelligence installed in Wickford High Street, car parks and pedestrian routes.
"I am delighted to allocate Local PFCC Safer Streets funding of £294,346 to improve CCTV, install safety measures and increase community safety patrols in key areas across Essex.
The latest allocation brings total PFCC Local Safer Streets funding to more than £6.5 million since the scheme began in 2022.
