On 10 October 2025, Australia will again join the world in observing World Mental Health Day, a moment to raise awareness, challenge stigma, and promote mental wellbeing.
This year, the global theme is “Mental health in humanitarian emergencies”, drawing attention to the psychological toll of crises — from natural disasters to conflicts to pandemics — and the urgent need for accessible, community-based mental health support.
This reflects understanding that social connection is a protective factor for mental health and can help buffer distress during times of uncertainty.
Throughout October, many organisations will run events and campaigns under Mental Health Week / Mental Health Month, culminating in World Mental Health Day.
For Australians, World Mental Health Day 2025 is not just symbolic — it’s a powerful reminder of the ongoing mental health challenges we collectively face: from rising demand for services to stretched resources and the invisible wounds of trauma and social isolation.
