SALISBURY — Rowan County Fire Division Chief Deborah Horne signed off for the last time on Monday, surrounded by family, friends and coworkers at her retirement party. Horne is retiring after 10 years at the helm of the Fire Division of Rowan County Emergency Services and almost three decades in fire and emergency services in and around Rowan County. Thomason first hired Horne as a telecommunicator with Rowan County 911 Communications when he was the telecommunications director. Horne was not the only emergency services leadership to retire this week. Emergency Services Chief Allen Cress also retired on Wednesday and will be succeeded as interim chief by Deputy Chief T.J. Brown.
