The Australian War Memorial is unique amongst the world’s great memorials because it unites all of these functions in a single institution.
Charles Bean (1879–1968), Australia’s official war correspondent at Gallipoli and later its first official war historian, conceived and founded the War Memorial.
They are harbingers of what is happening and what is to come, the tip of the spear, the first sharp thrust aimed at piercing the fabric of the War Memorial.
