FLUSHING, MI — In a quiet sanctuary on Main Street, more than 40 people came together Wednesday night, Oct. 1, bowing their heads in sorrow for the victims of the Grand Blanc Township mass killing. For Nancy Thomas, 79, who has lived in Flushing for 29 years, the vigil at Flushing United Methodist Church carried a deeply personal weight. The Flushing church intentionally held its vigil at the same time as Grand Blanc United Methodist Church to show solidarity. Letters and notes were written to share with victims’ families, and an offering was collected for the Victim Compassion Fund organized by Grand Blanc police.
