A cathedral was filled with barking, squeaking and even the slow shuffle of a tortoise as worshippers brought their pets to be blessed in a unique service celebrating animals. The service gave thanks for the companionship and joy animals bring to people’s lives. Led by the Very Revd Nicholas Papadopulos, Dean of Salisbury, and Revd Sophie Ferguson, the service featured hymns, readings and music performed by Salisbury Cathedral’s Girls’ Choir and Junior Choir. Dean Nicholas Papadopulos said: “We love our pets – as faithful companions and as so much more. The service was uplifting and enjoyable for everyone, allowing us to give thanks to God for the integral part that our pets have in our lives.”
