News Headline -The Kogi state government Wednesday expressed deep sadness over the boat mishaps that occurred on the River Niger, involving traders travelling from Ibaji local government area of Kogi state to Ilushi market in Edo state. This was contained in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, describing the incident as unfortunate. The commissioner confirmed that the death toll from the accident has risen to 26, adding that available reports indicate that the unfortunate incident has claimed the lives of not less than 26 passengers. “This is a heartbreaking loss, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the deceased, as well as the entire Ibaji local government area, during this moment of grief,” Fanwo said. The statement further assured that the state government will intensify ongoing efforts in collaboration with federal agencies, to improve safety measures on waterways to prevent a recurrence of such a tragedy.
