The Town of Zebulon broke ground Tuesday on a new Fire and EMS station on Judd Street, a $17 million project that leaders say will bring faster response times and expanded coverage for both town residents and eastern Wake County.
The facility will house Zebulon Fire Department crews alongside Wake County EMS units, marking the first time both services will operate under one roof in town.
Officials said the move will improve efficiency and allow the town to keep pace with its rapid growth.
In addition to serving Zebulon, county-run EMS units based at the new station will respond to emergencies in unincorporated areas of eastern Wake County.
Officials said that regional approach is critical as Wake County continues to grow.
